Towards Black

towards black

This is a little solar dyeing project I'm taking with me on holidays.

One way to dye black is to overdye in as many lighter colours as it takes to achieve a dark shade and that's what's in store for this piece of silk.

After each overdye I'll tie off a portion to keep a record of the layers. So far it was dyed in exhausted maple leaves and avocado skin. Still very pale - it's a long way towards black...

I hope you will enjoy your toward black dye project. I have a flag iris plant and have read that the roots will give a black shade, so that is something I am looking forward to trying next year. Enjoy your holidays:) x
