Garden in April

dyer's knotweed

The madder (top picture) is growing well and looks ready to be transplanted outside. The knotweed (polygonum) is fragile and straggly (lack of light?) I'm giving them a few more weeks indoors. A frosty night is forecast for the weekend.

Is knotweed invasive where you are?

Some knotweeds are but not this one. It's dyer's knotweed, polygonum tinctorium or Japanese indigo. In fact I think it doesn't like the local climate much... unfortunately.

eva--i grew dyer's knotweed in our short summer, and it flourished. just not for very long. maybe it will be fine if it can get enough sunshine.
